John Bauer is an established ceramicist who’s work has been exhibited world-wide, and collected by two museums before he was thirty. He supplies dinnerware to South Africa’s top restaurants including Luke Dale-Roberts’ Test Kitchen and Naturalis.
He pushes the limits of what is technically possible in ceramics and is globally recognised for his unusual, cutting edge developments in Porcelain production.
He has innovated a printing technique coined “dioroid” printing using a responsive emulsion that capture the images of ambient objects in the body of the clay. He has also revived Tsung Dynasty techniques, with the images on his work rising above the surface of the clay. They are not negative impressions, but positive ‘expressions’ from the clay’s surface.
John’s studio is a favorite for international tour groups.
