Clementina van der Walt is a well-known South African ceramist who is known for her dynamic use of colour, often bright, but at times also grounded in muted earth tones. Her work depicts a contemporary aesthetic, while still maintaining a handmade feel. Working in clay for over four decades, Clementina has developed a signature style, appealing to collectors all over the world. She works from her studio in Woodstock, Cape Town, where she has two assistants who help her with her tableware ranges, allowing her time to work on more intricate one-off works of art.
Clementina and her partner, Albie Bailey, have a farm in the Klein Karoo where they spend a few days a month. There she draws on the natural surroundings for inspiration and creates new and often thought-provoking ceramic artworks. In the last decade, Clementina has practiced and developed her creative talents quite differently, incorporating drawing and painting into her ceramics. Clementina’s work has been exhibited in many international shows and exhibitions, and can be found in private and public collections both locally and abroad.
