Working in the small seaside town of Kleinmond since July ’91, Corinne draws inspiration from nature. The power of the mountain rock and fynbos canvas behind, and the fluidity of the ocean in front, and then responding to the sensuously plastic nature of the clay itself, to make an extensive range of functional ceramics. The philosophy of authentic hand-made craftsmanship in objects for daily use that informs directly man’s quality and humanity of life, forms a central part of the choice of working in the field on functional ceramics.
Custom work include Limited Edition Tableware for some South Africa’s top restaurants, as well as smaller eateries that choose to add quality to their presentation in serving from beautiful plates and bowls. Corinne loves the creative demands posed by working in collaboration with these chefs, and creating fresh contemporary tableware in an ongoing basis.
Time allows only a small number of vessels and individual pieces to be made, and these are available from The Potter’s Gallery in Harbour Road Kleinmond. The Potter’s Gallery also hosts and promotes the extensive Collection of Signature White Functional Ceramics that this Kleinmond studio became famous for over the years.
Gardeners also love the traditional planters that are made here, as seen in a number of established private gardens across the Western Cape, and the gardens of Babylonstoren. Today, contemporary plant container designs are also available, adding to the extensive traditional collection that has been the hallmark for many years.
